Renting Movies

Remember when you used to be able to rent movies?

I wanted to rent that new Robocop movie the other day (hey, I'm proud of it), but it's not available on Netflix, it's not at Redbox, and it's not at the no-name Redbox competitor they have at the grocery store next to my work. However, it is available for sale at Target and for download on the iTunes movie store. Well... I don't want to buy it, and I don't want to pay five dollars to watch it on my laptop. It was released on blu ray / DVD two weeks ago, but Netflix has their release date as the beginning of July. Who knows about Redbox.

If only there was some kind of store where one could rent BLOCKBUSTER movies the day they are released.

Anyway, end of rant.

I never expected myself to say this, but I miss video stores.

It seems like a big Hollywood scam to get you to buy movies. Do away with rental stores, hook people in by offering machine rentals for a buck, then slowly remove every good movie from the rental box until the only option left is to see the movie in a theatre OR buy it. Conspiracy theory over.

Yeah, Redbox sometimes makes you wait two to four weeks for some movies. The funny thing is that it's usually movies that had strong theatrical runs. Movies like Robocop tend to be available on Redbox pretty much as soon as they're available on DVD.

Anyway, I know they've got it now, because I actually get e-mails from Redbox, and they've been trying to get me to rent this movie for at least a week or more.
