Bondathon Part 26: Quantum of Solace

Part 26 of my Bondathon movie review marathon: Quantum of Solace, the 22nd official James Bond film, and the second to star Daniel Craig as 007. It's also one of the best, despite what some people may have told you.

Wow! I'm incredibly surprised that there is someone else on this planet who didn't hate Quantum! I hold it as one of the best Bond films of all time in my opinion, and I agree with every single point you made in the review. I hope can only hope that the writers of Skyfall didn't take the critics too seriously, because I think the direction the first two Craig films has been heading is a direction I don't want to see any deviations from in the near future. Look forward to the next Bondathon vids!

nuu-uuuhh. I actually never watched this movie, which is weird because I saw Casino Royale. Everyone just trashed it so I didn't even bother. That song sounds like it was recorded in a trash can.

Quantum of Solace is awesome. I heard such awful stuff about it, so when I finally went to see it, it blew me away. I don't understand how anybody could not enjoy it.

I'm at my parents house and haven't had a chance to watch your review yet. I'm sure it will be good, but you know where I stand on this film. It's just so boring.

^^^ Oh man. Here we go again.

Watched it last night. Not going to say it was awesome, but I thought it was good. Honestly I don't really see what's so bad about it. That song is god awful though.

Finally got to watch this.

Yeah, to be clear, I didn't hate this movie (though that Quantum Leap/James Bond film sounds fucking awesome). I just can't really remember a lot about it and there were a couple of things--like Mathis coming back and having been innocent all along, or whatever--that actively sort of annoyed me. I remember the movie ending and being like, "Eh."

I did think the portrayal of the CIA was pretty interesting, since it pretty much jibes with how I imagine them in real life--frequently on the wrong side, screwing things up for other countries just for some nebulous benefit to the US. I love Jeffrey Wright as Leiter.

The theme song I could take or leave. It's not terrible. Again, I just didn't remember it at all.

I don't know...I guess this movie sort of suffered the same fate as that book Devil May Care, that was written by Sebastian Faulks to commemorate Fleming's 100th birthday. It just had too much to live up to.

I always thought it was pretty obvious in Casino Royale that Mathis was innocent. How can you not be happy to see that character come back?
